How to Save a Mouse Caught by Cat

Cats are natural hunters, and it is not uncommon for them to catch mice. However, as animal lovers, it can be distressing to witness a mouse being caught by a cat. If you find yourself in this situation, there are steps you can take to save the mouse and give it a chance at survival.

1. Act quickly: The first step is to react promptly. Immediately intervene to prevent the cat from harming the mouse further.

2. Separate the animals: Carefully separate the cat from the mouse. If necessary, use a towel or a thick glove to protect your hands. Remember, cats can be territorial, so be cautious to avoid getting scratched or bitten.

3. Assess the mouse’s condition: Check for any visible injuries. If the mouse appears injured or unable to move, it may require immediate medical attention. In such cases, contact a local wildlife rescue center or a veterinarian who can provide guidance.

4. Provide a safe environment: If the mouse seems relatively unharmed, create a safe space for it. Use a small cardboard box or a plastic container with air holes. Line the bottom with soft material, such as a cloth or paper towel, and place some food and water nearby.

5. Observe from a distance: After providing a safe environment, step back and allow the mouse some time to recover. Mice are resilient creatures, and they may regain their strength within a few hours.

6. Release the mouse: Once the mouse appears active and healthy, it is time to release it back into a suitable outdoor habitat, away from the cat. Choose a location that provides shelter and access to food and water sources.
